Franklin Bronze Plaques - Foundry Facility

Established in 1878, Franklin Bronze & Alloy Company is one of the oldest continually operating foundries in Pennsylvania. Historically a sand casting facility, Franklin Bronze expanded into the investment casting market in 1987. We subsequently increased our investment casting capabilities in 1989, 1991, and 1996, and our investment casting division now operates as a manufacturing facility separate from our sand casting division.

Our Investment Casting Division

Housed in a 25,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility, Franklin Bronze's investment casting division includes five casting furnaces, all featuring inert gas melting, and nine wax injection presses. A 24-hour automated shell room allows us to produce more than 250 molds per day, and our wax room is also operational around the clock. Our shell dipping area is equipped with three hand dipping slurry baths, three hand dipping fluidized sand beds, and a 280-shell Shellomatic robotic dipping system.

Franklin Bronze's fully equipped tooling facility allows precision tooling to be manufactured in-house, which means lower tooling prices and quicker tooling delivery. Our in-house tool room features two Tree Vertical CNC Millers, one Supermax 13" Lathe, and one Supermax Titan Series Vertical Miller. All tools are designed and made using CadKey 97. We also offer complete in-house machining services including customer part finishing.

Our Sand Casting Division

Franklin Bronze's no-bake sand casting division produces high-quality sand castings in brass, bronze, aluminum, stainless steel, and nickel-base alloys. Our sand casting facility relies on 100% induction melting and a complete air-set casting system, and our full-range analytical spectrometer allows thorough hardness testing and chemical analysis. Our sand casting approach also includes reclamation of all sand used in our casting process.

Our sand casting division's molding capabilities include green sand molding on four squeezer production lines. Castings can be provided with either rough or machined finishes, and complete machining capabilities allow in-house tool making as well as the ability to machine-finish customer parts. Franklin Bronze sand castings range from 1 inch to 3 square feet and may weigh up to 200 pounds. Sand casting orders range from 1 to 50,000 pieces.

Quality Control

Franklin Bronze painstakingly examines every casting we produce for defects or inconsistencies, and all metal we pour is hardness tested and chemically analyzed on our Spectro Lax L7 analytical spectrometer. If a casting or heat does not meet our exacting standards, it will not be shipped.
